Things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse up here in Grand Forks. UND sent out the message this morning that ALL classes were cancelled until next Tuesday in order for students to get out and help sandbag...not in Fargo, but in Grand Forks now. The city says that the system put in place after the '97 flood can hold up to 60 feet of water, after that it's not going to be good. I would be content with that except now I think things aren't as rosy as they were intiially made out to be. The thing to remember is that UND never cancells class...never. I asked one of my sociology professors a couple of weeks ago how many times the University has cancelled classes since she's been there. She's been there for over 25yrs and UND had cancelled one time. Now they are cancelling classes for three full days? Something must not be looking good. We just got 10 inches of snow earlier in the week and its still snowing up here. I hope and pray it stops soon.
Fargo, of course, is still worse off. My brother called me this morning and said that him and his girlfriend were asked to evacuate today. They are going to Grand Rapids for a couple of days and hopefully will be able to return on Saturday. He said the city is asking people to leave today and tomorrow so that there won't be a mad dash for the interstate on Saturday when the river is supposedly supposed to crest over. Come saturday things are either going to be really good or really bad...let's hope really good, but prepared for really bad.
