*Looks like the climate savers are running into problems. Once hailed as a critical part in reversing global warming and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, bio fuels have ended up making things worse. Corn markets have been legislatively tampered with meaning the current prices and levels are not a realistic reflection of what is really in demand. Also, because of the high demand and profits associated with corn, farmers are no longer engaging in crop rotation. This has adverse effects on soil quality. Another startling point is that Brazil, the ethanol capital of the world, is actually destroying more and more of the rain forest to grow corn crops.
*Imagine if you started a new company and you had to compete against seventeen hundred other companies in selling your product to the American people. The only catch is that you don't have to set the price of your product to meet the current market--thus being able to sell your product at a considerable discount. You also have the ability to burden your competitors with fees, taxes, and new regulations with the simple signature of your CEO. Seems impossible right? Well...unfortunately that's what would happen if a so-called "public option" were part of health care reform. Is there any doubt that private insurance will be able to survive such a competitor? Perhaps that is exactly the point...
*I was listening to talk radio today while driving around Bismarck. An ad came on for this program that allows you to make good money while staying home. As the ad finished with the spokesperson giving the web address for the company: incomeathome.com. The amusing thing is that the spokesperson felt it necessary to spell "at" when giving out the address. Thus it went like this: incomeA...T...home.com The economy must be pretty bad if businesses are targeting the "I can't spell simple words like at" demographic.
