Well, the Messiah spoke to the masses tonight. I sat and listened to the speech while writing my "deathography" paper for my Death and Dying course. That moment was so rich with irony that I just had to bask in it for a while. Don't misunderstand me: I wish no physical harm on the President. He is a good man and the leader of the greatest nation on Earth. However, I do feel that in a sense a major component of our country is slowing dying. I'm not sure it has an official name, but it's the component that states that not everybody makes it. People fail and businesses fail. That used to be alright. Now, everything is "too big to fail." We are supposed to believe that because some really important economists and politicians with all sorts of fancy degrees tell us so. But aren't they the ones that got us in the mess?
I thought the President did a fine job. He is an excellent speaker and really has a way of coming across as a likable guy. His policies, most of them, frighten me. But hopefully the GOP holds on strong and fights him all the way.
I did not appreciate the way Biden and Pelosi acted tonight as they had the high privilege of sitting behind the President for the entire country to see. The V.P. was pointing to people in the crowd and smirking throughout the entire speech. Pelosi jumped to her feet every five seconds it seemed like. You know she was loving the fact that she could finally "stand behind" a president. She probably didn't feel comfortable doing that while W. was president for the simple fact that Cheney was up there beside her. Too many leaps from her and she would have been on the next hunting trip with the V.P.
I had really high hopes for the GOP response to the speech tonight. Gov. Bobby Jindal is a great governor and is the rising star in the party. Tonight, however, he appeared more as like a falling star. He looked childish, talked like Mr. Rogers, and did not connect at all with the feelings of most Americans. I was deeply deeply disappointed. They should have put a strong, professional looking person up there like my man Mitt. He would have been so successful in exposing the sham that is the Obama economic policy. Unfortunately they went with Bobby Jindal. He sounded more like Bobby Hill to me. (I put that in there just for the Van Dyke's)

JT - We have got to be an incredibly rich nation if we are to truly afford everyhting that was promisted by the President. What a Christmas list. As I listened, my thoughts overcame me and I wondered, "When will this 'pie-in-the-sky' hit us in the face?" I know we're to be hopeful and not fearful...but that's hard to muster. My personal confidence level is high, but my confidence level in the direction of the country is sinking. I believe that even the liberals at CNN are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And thanks to the homage to Bobby Hill. That boy ain't right.
