Thoughts before a night with the Crane brothers...

on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Well, a little over fifteen minutes before Frasier comes on. I have missed the last couple of nights so I am really excited to be able to see it again. I've seen every episode of the show, but I don't care. It's like Seinfeld...you never get sick of the re-runs, no matter how many times you see them.
Not a lot going on with me at the moment. I am glad to see that Grand Forks hardly got any snow while Bis/Man got over 16 inches. I guess MHS was supposed to have their firt baseball game of the season today...something tells me that they'll have to re-schedule that one. Speaking of baseball, my roomate will be the head coach of the Chiefs this summer and he put me in charge of putting together an iTunes playlist that can be used to fill the time between batters, innings, and games. So, come to the games this summer to hear wonderful music from my computer.
Lastly, I came across two great quotes today. One was by the late-great William F. Buckley, Jr. Sometime in the 1970's he wrote an article for Playboy magazine. Jerry Falwell confronted him about it on national television and Buckley, in that overly confident, snooty voice that I just love, replied, "Well, how else am I supposed to get my son to read my work?" The other quote was by the great satarist P.J. O'Rourke. If you haven't read any of his stuff, you're missing out. Anyway, he wrote an article in the Weekly Standard a while back about a history museum he toured and how there was a particular exhibit that dealt with the diseases brought to the Americas by Columbus and his crew. This lead O'Rourke to quip, "Therefore, the horrors that beset The Ancient Americas following 1492 would have happened if the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María had been manned by Jimmy Carter, the Dalai Lama, and Bono." Right on P.J.!!! Well, i's almost time to tune in to the Crane brothers. As Frasier would say, "Goodbye...and good mental health."
