Thoughts for the Day

*Looks like the Senate version of Obamacare still has some hurdles to get through before final passage takes place. Senator Lieberman came out today and stated that he will vote no if there is any form of a public option in the bill. That would mean that Harry Reid would have to pick up a Republican vote in favor to break through a Republican filibuster before final passage. Such a mechanism failed earlier this week because moderate Dems wanted to "keep the debate going." However, if Harry Reid doesn't have the votes to break a final filibuster he may use the reconciliation process to pass it with a simple majority. This would be highly controversial and out of the norm and would anger many on Capitol Hill. This however would give high risk Dems like Sen. Dorgan the cover needed to vote No on final passage. The backlash however could be quite sevear and could have very damaging effects for the 2010 elections. Either way the final vote is going to be controversial.

*PETA recently ran an ad campaign against KFC that showed images of piled up dead chickens along side images of piled up dead Jews from concentration camps thus equating the two. My favorite columnist and radio personality Dennis Prager summed it up best when he responded to the ad campaign by saying, "You have had to gone to college to believe something that stupid."

*President Calvin Coolidge was known for his quiet demeanor. He often took two or three naps a day while at the White House and had a very cold relationship with the press. While hosting a state dinner a lady came up to him and told him that she could get the great Silent Cal to say more than two words to her that night. Coolidge winked at the lady and calmly responded, "You lose."

*How many times have heard something like this, "The income gap is so great in America that the top one percent own more than eighty percent of the wealth in this country." Such statements are meant to be a call toward social justice and a charge toward closing the income gap. Such statements are unfortunately so stupid that they should just be dismissed outright. Notice how the statement is intrinsically Marxist? The wealth is owned....However the statement read quite differently when you say, "the top one percent created eighty percent of the current wealth in the country." Unfortunately phrasing the situation this way doesn't play into the Marxist play book. The whole basis of socialism and Marxism is the fallacy that economics is a zero sum game. They believe that if one person gains a dollar somebody must have lost a dollar. But we know that wealth is created not just traded.

Just to let you know your blog has received my Good Housekeeping seal of approval. I heard that the number of Independents has grown from 20 percent to about 40 percent at present and continues to grow. This is the group that has and will continue to win elections either for Dems or Repubs.
