Stories that could effect 2010

*Over at Say Anything blog today they have a post about private polling data that is showing that Pomeroy loses by seven points to the generic "unnamed candidate." When you can't even beat an unnamed candidate it's time to hang it up. Go ahead Earl---I'll help you pack.

*A news story from Science Daily highlights new research being done by Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristo that shows that a majority of the CO2 emitted by human beings ends up being absorbed by the ocean and other eco systems not the atmosphere. He analyzes the climate change data and comes to the conclusion that "the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades."

*In an Op-Ed that ran in the Wall Street Journal today, Nicholas D. Kristoff shows how helping people save their money can make a dramatic difference in poverty plagued third world countries. One point that really stuck out to me was that "the world’s poorest families (typically the men in those families) spend about 20 percent of their incomes on a combination of alcohol, cigarettes, prostitution, soft drinks and extravagant festivals." International organizations that come in and show families the wonderful power that saving money can have. I think we need a dose of that here in America as well!!

*Fox News had a great piece of anylisis for its series about the Year in Review. They listed the top problems that faced the nation in 2009 and highlighted which ones Obama advocated private sector solutions and those in which he advocated for a government solution. Health care, housing, climate change, stimulus, executive pay, auto industry were all met with public sector solutions. The private sector solutions dealt only with vague things like "agreements" from hospitals to cut back on costs, etc... 2009 was the year of government rescue, let's hope 2010 isn't a repeat of that.
